Sound Therapy
Beyond relaxation, is there clinical evidence for sound therapy?
A (Neurologist): Yes, emerging data on auditory beat stimulation (ABS). A 2026 dose-response study showed 36 minutes of theta-frequency beats significantly reduced anxiety vs. 12 minutes. That suggests a biological mechanism, not just placebo.
B (Psychologist): It's a tool for acute state change, not long-term healing. For panic attacks or pre-surgery anxiety, great. For PTSD or major depression, it's an adjunct to CBT, not a replacement.
C (Audiologist): My concern is safety. These apps are unregulated. Teenagers listen to binaural beats at max volume for hours, risking noise-induced hearing loss. We need volume limits.
D (Digital Health Founder): The market is moving to "prescription digital therapeutics." We're seeking FDA clearance for sound-based insomnia treatment. If insurance pays $300 for an app instead of $1,000 for sleeping pills, everyone wins.
